Alan Vega is 70?!?! Geez Gordon…we are older than dirt! And to think that you probably sold Bruce on the Suicide tape. Remember how he’d buy anything we’d suggest? Think his next album will feature a Pere Ubu hit? Did Pere Ubu ever have a hit??? (grin)

i remember seeing him buy a bunch of tapes, but i don’t remember ever talking to him, or suggesting anything.

no pere ubu methinks — vega was kind of the dark side of bruce’s american anthems, while ubu were on another planet entirely.

didn’t we go see suicide with blondie at cb’s with lenny? i remember how painful the set was for him. . . 😉

I do remember going to see Suicide/Blondie at CBGB’s with Lenni. Guess Lenni just went for the Blondie set, huh?

I don’t recall speaking personally with Bruce in the store either, but perhaps Kevin or Lenni spoke on our behalf because I remember being elated with some of his choices on one particular occasion. All I ever got to do was interact with fans who’d spotted him in SG’s and asked if I could get them Springsteen’s autograph. To which I replied…”yes, it’s him and no, I will not ask (because I’m just not drunk enough), but here’s a nice green sharpie and paper for you to do it yourself”.

Another nice stroll down memory lane…..

PS…I don’t particularly care for Springsteen’s cover of the song (a smidge too anthem-like for me), but did enjoy a trip to Mapplethorpe’s site (www.mapplethorpe.org) after reading the article.
