fun police stories

PETA members treated like terrorists (thank you Patriot Act — Mr Obama’s going to repeal this nightmare, one hopes) & 98% of ER docs report patients who appeared to be the victims of excessive force by police officers

also from Sam Smith: why we need to stop being afraid of Israel.

Ya know Gordon, I’ve been an animal activist for close to 30 years now…and I had to stop, or at least slow down, on any front-line activism because of the risks involved and the effect my winding up in jail might have on my children. And by front-line activism I don’t particularly mean stuff like breaking into mink farms or pharma labs to release imprisoned animals, or tossing paint on little old ladies walking down the street in full length fur coats. I’m talking about simple things like leafletting circus’s or simply waving a sign in front of a furriers store…thereby reducing myself to a letter-writing activist or advocating things like cruelty-free living in my personal domain. Lord knows these cops don’t have anything else to occupy their time with. sigh…..

had to look up “leafletting circus”, thought that was a code phrase for something i hadn’t heard of, not leafletting circuses.
