r.i.p. patrick mcgoohan

always riveted me to the screen when he was on, secret agent, the prisoner, & escape from alcatraz.

i just recently caught all night long on tcm, in which he plays a machiavellian jazz drummer in 50s britain, the plot loosely based on othello, and he rocked — catch it if you can. the quare fellow, another early film role, is just out on disc.

hell drivers might be worth a look as well.

and if you have somehow missed the 2 series he did in the 60s mentioned above, they have aged well. and yes, amc is premiering a re-make of the prisoner this year with jim caviezel and ian mckellan, who will probably remain best known for playing gandalf, a role mcgoohan was offered but wasn’t well enough to play, apparently.

be seeing you, mr mcgoohan.
glenn kenny’s piece.
